The objective our Ministry is to provide an efficient and effective service to the people of the Southern Province with the theme "Prosperous South – going forward with Proud and Dignity".

For this purpose, supervision and monitoring of the activities of the Departments and Institutions coming under the purview of the Chief Ministry is being done in order to provide an efficient, productive and optimum service to the people of the Southern Province. In achieving the above targets, assistance and instructions are obtained where necessary from the Hon. Governor of the Province, Hon. Chief Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers. Hon. Members of the Council, Chief Secretary, Secretary to the Governor, Secretary of the Public Service Commission, Secretary to the Council, Secretaries to the Ministries, the Heads of the Departments and the institutions.

Following the vision of creating the best Provincial Chief Ministry of Sri Lanka from the south, the Ministry won the second place in the National Productivity Awards for third consecutive time, the ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance, and the Southern Province Sports Championships in 2016 and 2017. The Ministry is providing a more efficient and effective service to the people of the south with the collaboration of subordinate institutions.

Various programs are implemented in order to uplift the health and livelihoods of the people through various programs implemented by the Departments functioned under the Ministry. As a result of maintaining a good level of hygiene and health, it has been possible to maintain the health indicators of the province in keeping with the national level. The Ministry fulfills its role properly by controlling communicable deceases, developing infrastructure which need for the day to day requirements of the people, implementing various rural programmes to provide closer service to the general public.

The Ministry has taken action to pay attention covering all parties from children to adults under the instructions of the Hon. Chief Minister. The Southern Province Chief Ministry is implementing various programs such as Posh Ana Dana, Size Manna Susa, Net Pahang, Sudan Amin Awadanama Handunamu, Sahanaya, Mau Samaja, Dakshina Jeewani, Sadarsha Gammanaya, Riya Sahakaru, Maga Sumithuru, Nila Niyamu Prabha Harasara and Vedihiti Bakmaha Ulela in order to provide a service closer to the people.
